CAKE SMASH
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly my newborn clients grow and change in their first year. One minute they’re snuggled up tiny in your arms and the next they’re rolling over. Crawling. Walking. Getting into every single thing you own! You blink and your baby has entered toddlerhood. What better way to celebrate than with a special cake for them to destroy?? I absolutely love creating special and unique designs for each of my baby clients to enjoy!
Sessions include…
– up to 1 hour of shooting time
– custom themed set and coordinating cake
– timeless (un-themed) baby portraits prior to smash

The Process
Reserve Your Session
Cake smash sessions are generally scheduled about a month before baby’s birthday. This is done to allow time for images to be edited and delivered prior to a birthday party if needed. However, they can still be done successfully up until a few months after the birthday! To reserve your session date on my calendar, a contract and session fee must be submitted. *The session fee is non-refundable and does not include any prints or digital images.

Once you are on the calendar, we will start getting into the fun stuff – planning your session! You’ll receive a questionnaire to discuss your preferences and any ideas, likes, and dislikes you might have. Based on your input, I’ll pull props and outfits from my collection and purchase or create new ones to help bring your vision to life.
We’ll also look into options for any artwork that you wish to create for your family or home. I’ll ask you to really think about how you want to enjoy those images in the future. I offer many different types of art including canvas, framed prints, wood mounted prints, boxed matted print sets, and traditional albums. You can view some of the beautiful products offered here to get a better idea.

On our scheduled session day, you’ll come see me at my new studio in East Lyme, CT. The studio is stocked with coffee and snacks, but honestly most parents will do a good amount of baby wrangling during a cake smash. You can be sure we’ll all walk away sweating with a baby covered in cake!

1-2 weeks after your session, you’ll be invited back to the studio to view your images and select any images and artwork you wish to purchase. All images in your gallery will be fully edited and ready to be delivered that same day. We’ll use some amazing software to custom design your wall art, ensuring you’ll love your printed pieces! All purchases will be done at this time, so I ask that all decisions makers attend this meeting. Most clients spend anywhere from $600 to $2000, but there is no minimum for purchases- you only buy what you fall in love with! Prints start at $150, and packages start at $590.
FAQs
I want to do a cake smash session, but I’m not sure on a theme. Help!
No worries! We can set up a time to brainstorm about potential themes, or you could pick a color scheme to work with if you really don’t have any “theme” ideas!
What if my baby won’t smash the cake?
Honestly, this happens pretty often as they often just don’t know what they’re supposed to do! I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get babies interested in cake, and sometime it involves have mom or dad show them what to do (so be prepared to get a little messy yourself)! Even if they don’t get totally into it, it’s an adorable memory you’re sure to cherish. Keep in mind we do take portraits prior to the smash as well, so there’s never any fear that you’ll walk away empty handed!
